VOCAL EVALUATION

Get honest, unbiased feedback

Have you ever wondered if your teacher or coach is just leading you on to make money?

Singing with a teacher creates loyalty and connection because the voice is such an intimate instrument. This intimacy can, sadly, also lead us to stay with a teacher who is perhaps not helping us to progress. I have experienced this several times. In college, I had a professor who kept raving about how amazing I sounded, even when I told him that my throat would hurt.

It takes time to build a voice. However, if you've given a year to a teacher and you're not getting the results you want, it is time to re-evaluate. This is what this service is for. I will give you an unbiased opinion. Sometimes it is the teacher that isn't working, sometimes the student. If any of these describe your situation, schedule an unbiased evaluation today.

RECORDING COACHING

Memories for the future!

Singing in a recording studio takes some getting used to, and it isn't cheap. Make sure you sound as good as you can by having a coach there with you to provide feedback. Recording presents a few unique challenges:

  1. It takes about an hour to record one song. This process can be quite emotionally and physically taxing.

  2. As you are using headphones to hear your backing track, it changes the way you hear sound, so you have to make sure you keep an eye on your vocal technique.

  3. The acoustics of a room---or lack thereof---can influence vocal technique and impact correct sound production. For example, if the room is less acoustic (as are many soundproofed studios), the singer might push more to get the same result they are used to, but in so doing would end up cutting off overtones.

This is why it is wise to have a vocal coach (ideally one you've worked with before) to sit in on your recording session, to make sure that you sound as good as you can.

ACCENT COACHING

Sound like a native!

Are you preparing for an audition, an acting role, or a competition in which you need to speak a different language?

I judge competitions, and I always mark down points if singers don’t know how to speak the language.
Let me help you sound authentic and get those extra points in competitions and auditions. I will work one-on-one with you to help you sound like a native.

I am from Switzerland! That means I grew up speaking Swiss German to my friends, and English to my mother.  In school, the official teaching language was German. French is required as well. I learned French for 6.5 years from native speakers, lived in France for 2 years, and learned Italian from a native-speaking teacher as well. Then, at the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, I coached languages with the opera coaches and did so later on in NY with the Metropolitan Opera coaches as well. In addition, I have the kind of hearing that allows me to imitate accents and the vocal skills to pinpoint where and how to shape your vocal instrument to make the right sounds.

Side note: I taught high school French in Utah for two years, and took over several German classes. To be honest, I was utterly appalled. Just because a US teacher has a degree in a foreign language, does not mean they sound in any way like they are native, nor can they teach you how to pronounce words and phrases.. The same goes for voice teachers who took a semester of a language: this does not mean they know how the language is supposed to sound.
